Graduate and Professional Student Assembly, University of Pennsylvania

PennSHAPE Challenge offers Penn graduate students access to free health and fitness workshops and the opportunity to compete for prizes based on workshop attendance and overall fitness improvement. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage graduate and professional student health by fostering healthy mental and physical practices.

What is the challenge?

PennSHAPE challenge is a 12-week fitness program that gives Penn graduate students free access to fitness assessments and classes covering a variety of topics such as yoga, weight loss, muscle building, pilates, meditation, and nutrition.

Individuals and teams compete for the greatest relative health and fitness gains as calculated by our specially designed formula. Winners will take home prizes totaling $1,200. Top participants will choose from packages valued at $100 each. Additional $20 prizes will be rewarded to the runners-up.

Just by participating in the program, you win all the free assessments, workshops, T-shirt, and health benefits!

Who can participate?

All students currently enrolled either full- or part-time in a University of Pennsylvania (Penn) graduate or professional program.

You do not need to have PennRec membership or Penn Student Insurance Plan (PSIP) to participate. You get free access to the assessment and workshops when you register.

What should I expect?

Registration is open August 18th. If you don’t attend an assessment by September 5th, you cannot participate. After registering, you will do the following:

  1. Select a timeslot (September 2–5) for your initial fitness assessment and show up for the assessment on time.
  2. Register for fitness workshops on our online calendar and show up for the workshops on time (September 8–November 21).
  3. Select a timeslot (December 8–12) for your final fitness assessment and show up for the assessment on time. Pick up your PennSHAPE T-shirt!
